Drawing Tips
Michael Jackson Portrait:

  • To faithfully copy the detail of the highlight in his hair will require some effort, you can use artistic license to eliminate some of the detail, but don’t ignore all the highlights because they give the image depth.
  • The highlights around the edge of his hair are important in defining where his hair ends and meets the background.
  • This is a grain image of Michael Jackson, so it allows for softer pencils for shading to create more texture in the skin tones.
  • His eyebrows and eyelashes are very dark so build up the shadow, but don’t lose the small ares where the whites of the eyes show.
  • There are very interesting highlight shapes on his right shoulder and neck, try to capture these as they add good definition in this Michael Jackson portrait.
