Drawing Tips
How to Draw Rita Ora:

  • So here’s the thing with using a grid to help you draw this picture of Rita Ora: Using a grid makes it much easier to get your drawing looking more realistic, but it takes some extra time.
  • A typical grid drawing can take between 1-3 hours to complete. It might be quicker or longer depending on how much detail and effort you put in.
  • Once you have your grid set up, spend time getting the placement of the shapes for Rita’s eyes, lips, nose, cheeks and forehead right. Also spend time on drawing the shape of her hands and fingers. This will help to get your final drawing looking accurate.
  • Before you begin shading, pay close attention to the different tones.
  • Some of the tones are pure white, like the pattern in the clothes she’s wearing.
  • Other tones are light, like the light areas in Rita’s eyes and the highlights of her right earring.
  • The darkest tones are in her clothes, in the shadow under her chin and in her eyes and eyebrows.
  • The mid tones are often the most difficult to get right. These are the “in between” grey tones. If you look carefully, you’ll see the background is a darker mid tone and her skin tone is a lighter mid tone.
  • There are very subtle tones in the shadows around her temples, cheeks, nose and chin. Work hard to get these tones right, this will make your drawing look more lifelike and prevent it from looking flat.
  • If you have colored pencils or highlighters and you want to get really creative, you could color in her lips and and nails in bright colors.
Good luck, have fun with it!
