How to Draw Michael Jordan

Tips on How to Draw Michael Jordan:

  • For his skin, first build up the foundational color including the highlights, mid tones and shadows
  • Dab areas of the foundation tone with your eraser to lift the tone to match highlights on his face
  • Once the skin’s foundation tone is complete, then work over the skin lightly with a the tip of a pencil to work up the texture that is visible
  • An effective shading technique to use to produce the texture visible of his pores, is the ‘stippling’ effect
  • Stippling is created by using the tip of a pencil to create a pattern of dots – the more closely grouped dots you create, the darker the area will be
  • Use a sharp mid or soft pencil (B, 2B) to work in the detail of his mustache and eyebrows
  • Notice the difference between the crisp lines and smooth shiny textures in his rings compared with the texture of his skin
  • When you work on the rings your shaper pencils and vary your shading technique to match the metal surfaces of his rings
