How to Draw Elvis Presley

  • The grain in this old photograph will be well translated onto textured paper.
  • The shadow cast by Elvis’ hand on his shirt creates a very interesting shapes as it overlays the square pattern of his shirt.
  • Pay attention to the broad, dark shadows above his eye.

  • See the a course mid-tone texture on his cheek as it transitions into the dark shadow. This can be achieved by holding a soft pencil (2B, 4B) side-on, and building up strokes lightly.
  • The highlights in his gelled hair can be outlined using a sharp pencil, then the dark areas filled in. Outlining the brighter areas with a sharp hard pencil (2H, H)will create a crisp line to work with.
