  • If you’re not 100% comfortable with drawing eyes realistically, then this photo of David Beckham is a good picture to start drawing
  • Work up the dark shadows cast by his brow over his eye sockets in layers rather than pressing too hard with your pencil to create dark shades
  • Notice the very subtle lighter shades of the white areas of his eyes – they are feint but discernible
  • Work up the under layers of the skin tones before you begin to add his stubble over
  • Notice the texture of the skin on his neck and the pores on his face
  • When you draw David Beckham in this photo, use ‘stippling’ to build up this texture
  • Stippling is a shading technique where you use a series of dots close together to produce texture and tone.
